Children's Rights & Development Policy

Millions of children all over the world live without parental care or run the risk of losing this care.  It is exactly these children who suffer the most from poverty, rejection and discrimination. They also are those who are at most danger of being exploited and abused.

SOS Children’s Villages campaigns for these children and their rights, wholeheartedly and world-wide.

Children need care and special protection. The United Nations therefore adopted the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989.  The Convention stipulates those elementary human rights which children and youths all over the world are entitled to. Since its foundation in 1949, SOS Children’s Villages has been working in the interest of the UN Convention.
SOS Children’s Villages advocates for children worldwide in their claims on these rights.

SOS Children’s Villages approaches policy makers to sensitize them to children’s rights. The aim is to change legislation and social conditions in such a way to effectively improve children’s living conditions and opportunities for development.
