Walbusch

Using the theme “A Giant Shirt for Children,“ clothing manufacturer Walbusch (located in Solingen) organized an extraordinary initiative in conjunction with their 75th anniversary in 2009.
Walbusch sewed the world’s largest shirt and showed it in a spectacular presentation in Dusseldorf’s LTU-Arena. The event was attended by SOS ambassador Reiner Calmund, who claimed, “The second largest shirt is worn by me!” A short time later, Walbusch received an entry into the Guinness Book of Records for the manufacture of the world’s largest shirt.

Afterwards, the shirt was cut up and the pieces were sewn into 25,000 bags, each filled with a 500 piece puzzle of the shirt’s motif. The puzzle bags sold for 10 euros, and for each sold, Walbusch donated 10 euros in addition.

In October, Walbusch set another milestone: a unique classical concert with Justus Frantz and the Philharmonia of the Nations at Dusseldorf Concert Hall. During the intermission, Walbusch presented a donation check to SOS Children’s Villages amounting to 250,000 euros. The total proceeds of Walbusch’s activities amounted to more than half a million euros by the end of 2009, this for the SOS Children’s Village Mogilev in Belarus.
